This small show in the “Project Room” at Robert Miller is a respectable collection of cyanotype portraits of young people from what the press materials call “New York’s homeless teenage transgendered community.” All well and good (is April Transgender Month? Catherine Opie at Gladstone Gallery and “Select Gender” at Farmani Gallery come immediately to mind) The transgenderedness of the portraits is variable, (and no scorecards were given out) but what this set of faces seems most to be is the yearbook of yet another crop of young, hopeful, possibly talented, out-of-place new arrivals in the city of dreams. Keep in touch with these people Josh, I want to see them all twenty years from now.
