This a small exhibition of one of the Aperture Foundation’s portfolio competition winners. It consists of a series of pictures taken at Australian outdoor sporting events, apparently mostly auto races, although the only action shown is of smoke and/or dust blowing onto the spectators. The dust fills the scene, warm-toned in some pictures, cooler in others, and the spectators mostly seem to be just enduring it.

I’m afraid that in a month filled with pictures of dust engulfing cities in Haiti and Chili, and with an old New Yorker’s remembrances of September 11th, the site of recreational dust-breathers leaves me cold.
