Everybody loves an apocalypse, especially, well really only, when it is safely presented on a screen or in a frame. Bennett Morris continues the genre with explorations of our latest apocalyptic preoccupations, global climate change and rising sea levels. And in the days when millions are spent for special effects in the movies, Morris daringly goes back to the old ways miniatures photographed to look like immense worlds remember Godzilla?
In this case the ‘sets’ really are small, aquariums or fish bowls I was told, Morris builds elaborate structures and then adds water, photographing as the structures succumb to the effects of rising water levels. Colored dyes added to the water add the critical Romantic atmosphere. Voile, destruction cleaned and aestheticised, the easier to enjoy the effects.
